NATAO Code of Ethics
The National Association of Therapy Animal Organizations (“NATAO”) Code of Ethics and Conduct (The “Code”) sets forth the ethical standards and expectations for the behavior and conduct of all its members. This Code is designed to ensure that NATAO members operate with integrity, professionalism, and transparency and in the best interest of NATAO, its members, and stakeholders.
A National Association of Animal Therapy Organizations Member (“NATAO Member“) is an organization that manages teams consisting of human and animal who provide comfort and friendship to individuals.
A National Association of Animal Therapy Organizations Affiliate (“NATAO Affiliate“) is an organization or individual that has an active interest in or works in a field related to animal assisted activities or therapy.
The NATAO Member or NATAO Affiliate:
• agrees to uphold NATAO’s mission to foster a community of therapy animal organizations that enhances the well-being of individuals through the power of the human-animal bond;
• will not share or use information, communication, or correspondence obtained directly or indirectly from other members without permission;
• understands that any failure to comply with the NATAO Code of Ethics may result in the termination of its membership in NATAO.
The NATAO Member:
• acknowledges that its therapy animals are working partners whom it treats with respect and whose physical and emotional well-being are its responsibility;
• agrees to uphold NATAO’s values by acting professionally and maintaining high standards of presentation and behavior in all aspects of animal therapy.
